Money and Relationships
Are you a saver or a spender? Is your partner the opposite? It always seems to work that way and this can often lead to disagreements. The main reason couples fight is money. Often we believe if we have more money, we would be less stressed about it. However, this is usually not the case. Instead, we need to understand our attitudes and habits about money. We all have a ‘money personality’ that influences how we use and think about money. In May we will be offering a seminar called Money Personalities that explores this issue further. Check out the seminar section of the website.
How would you describe your money personality? Is it different from the people close to you? How does this affect your relationship?

I’m totally about saving and making sure everything is paid on time, but my husband spends until the money is gone and doesn’t really care whether he pays stuff on time or not (as long as his cable doesn’t get cut off). We argue a LOT about money – I want to make sure our future is ok, and he says “Hey, you can’t take it with you when you die!” Is it even possible for us to handle our money without getting into a fight every time? Is this normal?

I’m a bit of a saver and my wife is a saver. It can take it’s toll on us at times…but the key is to come to a compromise which has served us well so far. The good thing is…the differences in our spending styles helps us find the middle of the road so that we can spend a little and save a little at the same time.
